A yet-to-be-identified man was found dead with parts of his body allegedly removed behind the Monday Market in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The discovery was made in the early hours of Tuesday, throwing residents of the community into panic as the circumstances surrounding the man’s death remained unclear.
Residents who spoke about the incident said the victim’s identity was unknown and that no one could immediately explain how he died or who was responsible.
A resident, Johnson Dawul, said the corpse was discovered behind the market before security personnel were alerted and arrived at the scene.
According to him, the discovery was particularly disturbing because some parts of the deceased’s body had been removed.
Another resident said the security operatives subsequently evacuated the remains from the area after being alerted by members of the community.
The incident has reportedly prompted an investigation by security authorities, with efforts underway to identify the deceased and establish the circumstances that led to his death.
When contacted, the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, had not responded to enquiries about the incident as of the time of filing this report.
