The United States Mission in Nigeria has warned visa applicants that application fees will not be refunded, even when their requests are rejected.
The mission gave the clarification in a post on its official X account on Wednesday, dismissing the belief that applicants are entitled to refunds after visa denials.
It explained that the payment covers the processing of an application and does not guarantee approval.
“The fee paid is an application processing fee, not a payment for a visa to be issued,” the mission stated.
It urged Nigerians planning to travel to the US to seek accurate information from official government websites and beware of agents promising guaranteed visas or refundable fees.
The mission advised prospective applicants to rely on verified US government platforms ending in .gov for visa requirements and procedures.
