The Alumni Association of Adeyemi College Of Education, Ondo (1996/1997 Set), has joined forces with stakeholders to express worries over the delay in the implementation of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education Act, six months after it was signed into law and gazzetted by the Federal Government.
In a press statement jointly signed by Odelade Oluwatoba, Chairman of the Association and the Secretary, Steve Akintimehin, the Alumni appealed to the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to use his good offices to set aside any recommendation for renewal of terms for principal officers of the Adeyemi College of Education, and instead concentrate on the appointment of a visionary Vice Chancellor to kick start the Adeyemi University of Education, Ondo.
The Association also called for the setting up of a transition implementation committee, made of people of impeccable character.
The Alumni said, "Once again, we appreciate Mr President, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari; GCFR, for assenting to the bill upgrading our Alma Matter to a Federal University of Education. This is laudable feat that is commendable, well deserved and long overdue.
"However, It is worrisome that after about six months of signing into law and appropriate gazetting of the Act the the Adeyemi Federal University of Education, no positive steps, have been taken by the Management of the our highly revered citadel of leaning to actualise the implementation.
The Association also cautioned against sabotaging the university status, saying "Instead, the meagre resources were being channelled towards actualising the tenure elongation/renewal of terms for principal officers of the college which has no legal basis since the law establishing the College-has been repealed.
"We passionately appeal to Governing Council, His Imperial Majesty, Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Senator Ayo Akinyelure and Hon Dr. Abiola Makinde to impress it on the Hon Minister of Education to start the process of the implementation so that the labour of our heroes’ past will not be in vain.
"Similarly, we enjoin the Hon Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to use his good offices to: (a) set aside any recommendation for renewal of terms for principal officers of the Institution;
"(b) set up a transition implementation committee, made of people of impeccable character; and (c) appoint a visionary Vice Chancellor with requisite academic and professional qualifications to man the new university," the Association said.
