The Ondo State Executive Council has ratified the appointment of Prince Adewale Fatusin Richard as the new Olusupare of Supare-Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area.
The approval was among key resolutions reached at the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday and presided over by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, alongside the ratification of major infrastructure projects, energy initiatives and other government policies.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, announced the decision while briefing journalists after the meeting, saying the council had approved Fatusin's appointment as the traditional ruler of Supare-Akoko.
Takuro also disclosed that the council confirmed the appointment of Prince Tayo Ajisegiri as the new Olujigba of Ijigba in Akure South Local Government Area.
He described Governor Aiyedatiwa as a leader committed to grassroots development, noting that the administration remained focused on strengthening traditional institutions and promoting development at the community level.
Besides the chieftaincy approvals, the Executive Council approved a $1.6 million United Nations Industrial Development Organisation small hydropower project at the Owena Dam, with the state providing counterpart funding for the initiative.
The council also approved the construction of a 7.5-megawatt gas-fired power plant to supply electricity to government facilities across the state, a move aimed at reducing dependence on public power supply and diesel-powered generators.
Other decisions taken at the meeting included the ratification of 21 infrastructure projects across the state, approval of counterpart funding for the ongoing Urban Water Project and the conversion of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, to Rufus Giwa University of Agriculture, Science and Technology.
The Commissioner for Information, Idowu Ajanaku, said the duration of the council meeting reflected the importance of the decisions reached, adding that they were designed to accelerate development in critical sectors, including infrastructure, education, energy, water resources and local government administration.
