Popular Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Lateef Adedimeji, has disclosed that his frequent emotional scenes in the early stages of his acting career were a deliberate effort to carve a niche for himself in the highly competitive film industry.
The award-winning actor made the revelation during an interview on The Morayo Show, explaining that he intentionally embraced tearful roles to make himself memorable after struggling to establish his identity in Nollywood.
According to Adedimeji, many people initially identified him by his resemblance to a senior colleague, a comparison he appreciated but did not want to define his career.
He said he carefully studied the industry to identify an area that was often overlooked and decided to make emotional performances his trademark.
The actor explained that whenever he was assigned a role that required even a brief emotional display, he put extra effort into delivering the scene convincingly, believing it would help him stand out among his peers.
His strategy, he said, eventually paid off as audiences began referring to him as the "crying machine," even before they became familiar with his name.
Adedimeji noted that the nickname reassured him that he had successfully created a distinct identity in the industry, adding that the recognition later paved the way for broader acceptance of his work.
Reflecting on his career journey, the actor stressed that versatility remains one of the most important qualities for entertainers seeking longevity in the industry.
He added that actors must continually develop diverse skills and adapt to different roles to remain relevant in the ever-evolving entertainment landscape.
