A Nigerian man, Ebikedoumene Bonny Jeff, has announced his separation from his wife, Yinlayefa, citing years of unresolved marital disagreements and emotional strain.
Jeff made the disclosure in a Facebook post on Saturday, August 8, which coincided with what would have been the couple’s fifth wedding anniversary.
According to him, their relationship began in 2008 when they were dating in their village, and they welcomed a daughter in 2011.
Jeff described his estranged wife as caring, humble and supportive, recalling how she stood by him during periods of financial difficulty and supported the family while he was still searching for employment.
He said Yinlayefa later secured employment at the Federal University, Otuoke, and shouldered several household responsibilities before he eventually got a job in 2019.
The couple subsequently got married on August 8, 2021, but Jeff said their marriage was later hit by painful experiences, including the loss of a child following a pregnancy.
He also disclosed that his wife had become pregnant three times while he was still a student but that he asked her to terminate the pregnancies because of their financial circumstances at the time.
The businessman further admitted that he later followed another woman on social media, describing the incident as a mistake. He said his wife was deeply hurt by it and, despite his repeated pleas, was unable to forgive him.
Jeff said the unresolved issues gradually affected the relationship, resulting in prolonged disagreements, emotional distance and what he described as a “silence battle.”
He also made allegations about threats allegedly made during the troubled period of their marriage, but did not provide independent evidence to substantiate the claims.
According to him, the couple eventually concluded that separation was preferable to remaining in a relationship that had become emotionally distressing for both parties.
“Today supposed to be our 5th marriage anniversary but we choose separation for future life that nobody should die because of marriage,” he stated.
Jeff described the decision as painful but maintained that marriage should not become a matter of life and death.
Despite the separation, he acknowledged his estranged wife’s contributions to his life and expressed appreciation for the sacrifices she made during their years together.
He wished her well, praying that she would be protected and rewarded for the support she gave him.
Reflecting on the end of their relationship, Jeff said he was left with memories of their years together but maintained that both parties had chosen what they considered the best path for their future.
