RUGIPO Rector lauds Aiyedatiwa over 60% subvention increase

The Acting Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, Dr Olorunwa Sunday Lawson, has commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for approving a 60 per cent increase in the monthly subvention to state-owned tertiary institutions.

Lawson described the intervention as a major boost to the sustainability of tertiary education and the welfare of workers in the state-owned institutions.

The commendation followed the governor’s announcement on Monday of the increase in monthly subventions, alongside the implementation of the Federal Government and unions’ agreement in relevant state-owned tertiary institutions.

According to the Acting Rector, the increased funding would strengthen RUGIPO’s ability to meet its financial obligations and sustain its academic and administrative activities.

He said the intervention demonstrated the commitment of the Aiyedatiwa administration to strengthening tertiary education and providing institutions with the resources required to operate effectively.

“The increase in subvention will provide additional support for the Polytechnic’s operations and complement the ongoing efforts of the management to consolidate academic stability, improve service delivery and provide a conducive environment for teaching, learning and staff development,” Lawson said.

He also welcomed the approval of the FG/unions agreement, stressing that improved welfare for workers was crucial to maintaining a motivated workforce and ensuring industrial harmony within the academic environment.

Lawson thanked the governor for the intervention, assuring that the management would continue to deploy available resources judiciously while prioritising staff welfare, academic excellence, responsible administration and improved service delivery.

He urged members of staff and unions in the institution to reciprocate the gesture through commitment to duty, cooperation and the sustenance of industrial peace.

The Acting Rector added that the intervention would support ongoing efforts to reposition RUGIPO and enhance its capacity to become a more efficient and competitive institution.
