BREAKING: Veteran actor, Olu Jacobs dies at 84


Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

His son, Olusoji Jacobs, announced the death in a post on Instagram on Wednesday, describing the deceased as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

According to Olusoji, the family announced the passing “with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought,” while appealing to bloggers and social media influencers to respect the family’s privacy.

Jacobs was regarded as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished actors, having built a career that stretched across theatre, television and the Nigerian film industry.

The late actor began his professional journey in Britain after receiving training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. He featured in British television productions and international projects before returning to Nigeria.

Back home, Jacobs became a familiar face in Nigerian cinema, earning widespread recognition for his distinctive performances and commanding presence on stage and screen.

His contributions to the entertainment industry earned him several honours, including the Industry Merit Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Africa International Film Festival.

Beyond acting, Jacobs was involved in film production and the development of Nigeria’s performing arts. He and his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, were associated with the Lufodo Group and remained influential figures in the country’s entertainment industry.
