Man allegedly kills friend with cutlass while cutting grass

A Kano Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of a man, Nazifi Kabir Liringo, over the alleged killing of his friend, Zaharaddin Adamu, during a grass-cutting activity in Abuja.

Liringo, a resident of Dambatta Local Government Area of Kano State, was brought before Magistrate Court 27, Nomans Land, on a charge of culpable homicide under Section 222 of the Penal Code.

The prosecution alleged that the incident occurred while Liringo and Adamu were cutting grass in Abuja, during which the defendant allegedly struck his friend with a cutlass.

According to the police, Adamu sustained injuries from the attack and subsequently died.

The prosecutor, Maryam Halilu Dantiye, told the court that the charge was a fresh one and requested permission for it to be read to the defendant.

The charge was subsequently read to Liringo by the court clerk, Muhammad Musa Tudun Wada.

However, the proceedings could not proceed because the magistrate’s court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case.

Magistrate Hauwa Abba Musa consequently ordered that Liringo be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the matter until October 6, 2026.
