The Convener of Avant-Integrity Humanitarian Initiatives (AIHI), Tpl. Segun Orimoloye, has commended the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for expanding health insurance coverage and improving access to healthcare services in the state.
Orimoloye also praised the Director-General of the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission, Dr Abiodun Oyeneyin, following the commission’s enrolment of 12,949 new beneficiaries under the Ondo State Abiyamo Health Insurance Scheme (ORANGHIS) in the second quarter of 2026.
According to the commission’s second-quarter scorecard, total enrolment rose to 129,957, compared with 3,725 new enrollees recorded in the first quarter.
The AIHI convener attributed the growth partly to the state government’s provision of free health insurance for retirees, which enables them to access healthcare without making payments at the point of care.
He commended Oyeneyin and the commission’s personnel for their contributions to expanding coverage, describing their efforts as significant to improving the health and well-being of residents.
The commission also recorded zero maternal deaths in the second quarter of 2026, sustaining the outcome achieved in the first quarter.
The performance was attributed to continued efforts to strengthen maternal healthcare and improve access to essential services for pregnant women and children under five.
The commission’s Abiyamo Scheme and outreach programmes were also highlighted as important components of preventive healthcare, particularly in promoting early detection of health conditions and ensuring timely medical intervention.
Orimoloye, who is a town planner and a stakeholder in urban development, said improved healthcare remained essential to sustainable communities and effective governance
He urged the state government to give greater attention to town planning, sanitation and the development of a healthy urban environment to sustain the gains recorded in healthcare delivery.
