Hundreds of members of the Independent Community Campaign (ICC) in Okeagbe, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, have joined the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG), a political group supporting the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The defectors, led by ICC pioneer chairman, Oloruntoba Femi, were received by the Director-General of AMG, Asiwaju Olumuyiwa Asagunla, alongside other political leaders and stakeholders.
The development involved members of the ICC who also announced their decision to align with the AMG during the gathering held in Okeagbe Ward 3.
Femi, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) youth leader in the ward, expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of his former group, alleging that it had failed to make meaningful contributions to the development of the community.
Another former ICC mobiliser, Agbabiaka, described Tunji-Ojo as a leader worthy of support and questioned the continued existence of groups opposed to the minister in his home community.
The defectors were welcomed by Asagunla; the AMG coordinator for Akoko North-West, Bola Salami; an AMG executive member and APC vice-chairman in the area, Hon. Becrin; and the group's Ward 3 coordinator, Comrade Ale Joseph, among other stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, Asagunla urged the new members to align with the AMG, citing opportunities he said some individuals had benefited from, including employment and recruitment. He expressed confidence in their integration into the group.
In his vote of thanks, Agbabiaka appreciated Asagunla and his entourage for travelling from Akure to receive the defectors, while the gathering ended with the new members reaffirming their support for Tunji-Ojo and the AMG.
