The African Democratic Congress has slated May 12, 2026, for the inauguration of its newly elected state executives and chairmen nationwide.
The party disclosed that the date remains provisional, adding that any adjustment would be communicated by its National Working Committee.
This was made known in a statement on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, following the conduct of state congresses in parts of the country.
The congresses, which held on Saturday in states such as Osun and Anambra, were conducted amid an ongoing leadership tussle within the party, triggered by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to withdraw recognition of its leadership.
Commending party members for their participation, Abdullahi said the elections were held in line with constitutional provisions and relevant electoral guidelines.
He noted that the exercise underscored the party’s commitment to democratic ideals and internal governance.
“The successful conduct of these congresses demonstrates our resolve to deepen internal democracy and build a transparent political platform,” the statement read.
He urged the incoming executives to prioritise unity and dedication as they prepare to assume their roles, adding that the task ahead requires collective effort to reposition the party.
Abdullahi also expressed confidence that the new leadership at the state level would strengthen the party’s presence and improve engagement with the electorate.
The announcement comes despite INEC’s earlier directive suspending recognition of the party’s National Working Committee led by former Senate President David Mark, pending the determination of a suit before the Federal High Court.
The electoral body had also stated it would not observe party congresses during the period, a move that affected activities in some states.
Nevertheless, the ADC proceeded with the exercise in several parts of the country as scheduled.
