The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered a Lexus RX350 Sports Utility Vehicle allegedly stolen at gunpoint in Akure, the state capital.
The command said the suspects, identified as Adeoba Precious, 31, and Oluwapelumi Babayemi, 30, were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Akure Area Command.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the arrests followed a robbery incident reported at Advic Resort in the Alagbaka area of Akure.
According to the statement, armed men allegedly attacked the victim, Mr. Yemi Adeyemi, at about 8:40 p.m. on July 23, 2026, and dispossessed him of his Lexus RX350 SUV.
Jimoh said the victim reported the incident to the police the following day, prompting detectives to launch an intensive investigation that combined intelligence gathering with strategic field operations.
He explained that the efforts led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle at the outskirts of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo Campus axis, where it had been abandoned by the suspects.
The police spokesman added that further investigations culminated in the arrest of the two suspects on July 25, noting that preliminary findings linked them to a criminal gang allegedly involved in armed robbery operations within and outside Ondo State.
He said the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Jimoh stated that a search of the suspects' hideouts led to the recovery of a stun gun loaded with one rubber bullet, a jerk knife and the victim's iPhone 13 Pro Max, all of which have been taken into police custody as exhibits.
He added that forensic and technical investigations were ongoing as detectives worked to identify and apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.
Commending the operatives for the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, described the feat as a reflection of the command's commitment to intelligence-driven policing and the fight against violent crime.
Ohagwu assured residents that the command would continue to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in armed robbery, kidnapping and other offences across the state.
He also appealed to members of the public to support the police with timely and credible information, assuring that all intelligence provided would be treated with strict confidentiality.
