Residents of Umuokereke Ngwa in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State have been left stunned following the death of a man, Innocent Nwaọjị, allegedly at the hands of his wife, Innocent Serah.
Nwaọjị was reportedly stabbed during the night on Saturday, with sources in the community claiming that the attack occurred while he was asleep.
The motive behind the alleged killing remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.
A resident of the community, David Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident on Sunday, said the development had caused considerable concern among residents.
Amaraizu said the couple had only recently begun their married life, having tied the knot in December 2025.
“We are not aware of any disagreement between the couple before the incident. The woman had been arrested and is currently in police custody, while the deceased’s body had been deposited at a morgue,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, when contacted, said she would respond to enquiries concerning the incident.
However, no further response had been received from the police spokesperson as of press time.
The latest incident comes months after another woman was arrested in Abia State over the alleged killing of her husband, an Immigration officer, in Umuahia.
The February 2026 incident was linked by the police to an allegation of infidelity, with the then Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, saying the suspect was being interrogated by detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department over a murder case.
