A 23-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus, Faith Alayande Ajoke, has died after reportedly falling from the rooftop of a four-storey hostel building at the institution’s Victoria Island premises.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026, was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Command, which said the deceased was found unresponsive within the hostel compound.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the matter was reported by the school’s matron after another student and a relative allegedly discovered a note believed to have been written by Alayande.
According to the police spokesperson, the two reportedly began searching for the student after discovering the note but were unable to reach her before she allegedly went to the rooftop of the hostel building.
Adebisi said police personnel were dispatched to the scene following the report, adding that the deceased’s remains had subsequently been taken to a morgue.
She said, “I can confirm the incident. The deceased reportedly wrote a suicide note and, before her hostel mate and a relative could locate her, she jumped from the rooftop of a four-storey building.
“The matron of the hostel reported the incident, prompting police operatives to visit the scene. Her body has been evacuated to a morgue for preservation.”
Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who also reported the incident, said the deceased was discovered on the ground within the hostel premises and the school authorities were subsequently alerted.
Makama stated that the Chief Matron, Mrs Igbokwe Juliana, reported the incident at the Victoria Island Police Division at about 6:30am.
The police command said investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death was ongoing.
The incident is not the first reported case involving a Nigerian Law School student who died by suicide.
In December 2025, a law student, Ayomiposi Ojajuni, was also reported to have died by suicide after allegedly being prevented from taking the Bar Final examinations at the institution’s Yola Campus in Adamawa State.
